Founded in 2013, Acrobatiq was born out of Carnegie Mellon University’s long history of excellence in cognitive science, human-computer interaction and software engineering. We are building on the success of CMU’s Open Learning Initiative (OLI), a pioneer in online learning, and the broader CMU community of researchers, educators, and scientists. OLI’s work in the science of learning and proven results have laid the foundation for our platform.
Our learning-science based approach to course design, and breakthrough analysis and modeling of learning data enables adaptive instruction for students, and gives faculty visibility into who is learning, who’s not, and where help is needed. Together, this convergence of learning science, technology, and data is empowering more students to succeed at a time when post-secondary credentials are more in demand than ever.

On September 1, 2018, Acrobatiq was acquired by VitalSource Technologies, an Ingram Content Company. Acrobatiq will continue to be a standalone unit of VitalSource and will continue to do what it was born to do: enable the creation, delivery, and continuous improvement of digital, adaptive, and data-rich courseware that powers student achievement.
But we can now do that bigger and faster as part of VitalSource. VitalSource is already the world’s leading digital distribution platform in higher education. This opportunity brings together Acrobatiq’s cognitive-science based platform that is focused on student success with VitalSource’s footprint, expertise, and trusted relationships with publishers and institutions of higher education.
